Welcome to Pri-Med UK

Pri-Med launched in the UK in 2004 with Pri-Med Update London. Since then, Pri-Med’s portfolio in the UK has expanded rapidly and now boasts five different brands of live meeting as well as online education. The flagship meeting - Pri-Med Update London – now runs twice a year and has attendance rates of over 900 GPs per meeting. Update meetings are also held in Manchester, Birmingham, Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Across all branded meetings and online education, Pri-Med UK will educate over 10,000 GPs in the UK in 2008.

At our events last year an average of 95% of delegates rated the Pri-Med experience as excellent/very good. This is reflected in the high levels of loyalty we have engendered over the last 3 years with 50% of our alumni returning to our meetings. A high proportion of 2007 delegates were totally new to Pri-Med Updates and came as a result of recommendation from a colleague.

Keynote speakers have included names as diverse as John McCarthy (former Beirut hostage) and Dr James Watson (Nobel Prize Winner), Terry Waite (former Beirut hostage)and Sam Galbraith.

In 2008 we are looking forward to introducing Pri-Med MiniClinics, an exciting initative where delegates get to submit questions to clinical experts on a wide range of topics from Mental Health to Dermatology.

Top quality speakers are chosen to deliver the presentations. They are experts in their field of medicine and so deliver highly beneficial information to our primary care GPs. Interactive question and answer time is provided at the end of each session for GPs to discuss any aspects of the educational content with the speaker in further detail.

The range of educational programmes includes

  • Pri-Med Update

A one day multi topic clinical education meetings Average attendance across all meetings per year = 3000

Pri-Med Updates are one day clinical meetings offering a multi topical conference programme. Delegates will hear a platform of nationally recognised clinical leaders evaluate the very latest advances in clinical research, medical technology and treatment protocols, with 100% focus on patient care. There is the opportunity for delegates to get involved through interactive voting and dedicated question and answer time. The day includes five clinical sessions and our newly introduced Pri-Med MiniClinics – short drop in sessions where delegates can speak direct with a secondary care consultant.
  • Pri-Med InDepth Diabetes

A one day meeting focusing on all aspects of diabetes management at a primary care level Average attendance across all meetings per year = 700

Featuring a well structured programme, designed specifically to meet the immediate educational needs of GPs who are leading the primary care response to the increasing impact of diabetes in our communities. Pri-Med InDepth Diabetes delivers real clinical lessons that apply in practice, covering all aspects of diabetes care.
  • Pri-Med Workshop – Insulin Management

A one day workshop dealing with all areas relating to insulin management Average attendance across all meetings per year = 300

More and more diabetes care is being provided from the ‘primary care setting’ which is driving the need for structured diabetes-related education for GPs. The number of people requiring insulin therapy continues to increase beyond existing NHS capacity. Despite new technology and overwhelming evidence to show that life-threatening complications can be reduced, many people with diabetes who are using insulin are sub-optimally controlled and remain exposed to risk.

These workshops give delegates the opportunity to take part in a number of interactive sessions to build confidence and understand the initiation and management of insulin therapy. The format of the day includes large and small group discussions, patient case studies and individual action planning time. Each workshop is designed for a maximum of 75 delegates.
  • Pri-MedTraining - Facial Aesthetics in your GP Practice

A one-day course that provides the skills and confidence you need to start providing facial procedures using botulinum toxin injections Average attendance across all meetings per year = 64

Minor non surgical cosmetic treatments are increasingly popular and are available from high street beauticians up to fully accredited plastic surgeons. There is increasing demand for this treatment and more and more GPs are now offering this outside of their NHS commitments.

This one day course is designed specifically for GPs and will include time devoted to ‘hands on’ practical aspects as well as a focus on practice development and growing revenues. This course is extremely interactive and designed for a maximum of 16 delegates per course.

Following research amongst our alumni and advisors, we are pleased to announce the launch of a new kind of Pri-Med event: Pri-Med Business. The focus of these events will be on the new business environment that has been created by recent health service reforms.

Welcome from Fiona

Welcome to Pri-Med UK. Since joining in 2005 I have been pleased to see Pri-Med UK grow from offering just the Pri-Med Update meeting format to the varied CME portfolio we have on offer today. Pri-Med covers the length and breadth of the UK and we are proud of our 7000 strong alumni database and the positive feedback we get from delegates at all our meetings.

We understand that different learning environments appeal to different people, which is why we now offer a variety of large, small and topic focused meetings, as well as online learning. We cover all types of learning models to ensure each GP receives their optimum CME experience.
